Postcards from San Francisco

Hello! My name is Ayeon Song and I’m currently working at cityseekr as an editorial intern. I am a participant of  the WEST Program, created by the Republic of Korea and the United States to train global leaders. I fell in love with San Francisco because of the kind people, beautiful scenery and delicious food. I love to experience new things, and I can’t wait to introduce you to my experience here in SF through the cityseekr blog. Carpe diem!

San Francisco is one of the most beautiful cities in the United States; it’s famous for sights like Union Square, Alcatraz, Lombard Street and Coit Tower. But I think my favorite tourist attraction here is the Golden Gate Bridge.

The Golden Gate Bridge was constructed by Joseph Baerman Strauss, a chief engineer who was ahead of his time. When it was believed that no one could build a bridge over the “Golden Gate” because of insurmountable difficulties, Strauss proved everyone wrong.

The Golden Gate Bridge is a technical masterpiece that can only be described in superlative terms. When it was completed in 1937 it was the world’s longest and tallest suspension bridge viagra 100 achat.

Are you good at riding a bike? Crossing the bridge on foot can be quite a challenge. The views, however, are amazing. I strongly recommend getting acquainted with San Francisco and neighboring Sausalito with a bike tour across the bridge. In fact, that was the first thing I wanted to do when I arrived in San Francisco: ride a bike across the bridge by myself. Living alone without families and friends in the USA was not easy for when I first came to California. So now, whenever I feel homesick, I ride a bike over the bridge to Sausalito and daydream.

The Golden Gate Bridge also makes me nostalgic for one of my favorite places back home, the Gwanan Bridge in Busan. I would get together with friends at the nearby beach and relax while having a beer (drinking regulation in public spaces is very lenient in comparison to the U.S.). The bridge, which is illuminated with beautiful colors every night, is also the location of the popular Busan International Fireworks Festival, held each year in October.

I recommend the following attractive spots where you can take in the grand views near the Golden Gate Bridge:

Vista Point: This popular sight on the Marin side of the bridge can be seen from many areas around San Francisco. It’s a place with commanding views of Marin County. You can also enjoy the San Francisco sky line and Alcatraz. And the color of the sunset from the Golden Gate Bridge is just so romantic!

Fort Point: Once a military post where soldiers and their families lived for more than century, today SF’s Presidio is a beautiful public park. The old military houses nestled near the base of the bridge are lovely to look at and add to the charming atmosphere, along with the scenic views of the bay.

As a child in South Korea, I remember the first time I listened to the song “San Francisco” by Scott McKenzie. It would always come on the radio while I rode with my father in the car.

If you’re going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.
If you’re going to San Francisco, you’re gonna meet some gentle people there.
For those who come to San Francisco, summer time will be a love-in there.
In the streets of San Francisco, gentle people with flowers in their hair.

Those lyrics made me want to go out and live the American Dream. Stay tuned for more snapshots of my experiences in San Francisco!
